Comments Policy

Our rules for comments on SMN News, so discussion stays respectful, honest and useful.

Ground rules

We welcome discussion. To keep it useful for everyone, comments must follow these rules:

  • Be civil. Disagree with ideas, not with people.
  • Stay on topic and add something to the conversation.
  • No hate speech or discrimination based on faith, ethnicity, gender or social status.
  • No threats, harassment or sharing of other people’s private information.
  • No accusations of crimes or wrongdoing without evidence. If you cannot back it up, do not post it.
  • No spam, advertising or promotional links.
  • Do not impersonate anyone, and do not post material you do not have the right to share.

How we moderate

Comments appear immediately and are reviewed afterwards. We remove comments that break these rules, and we may block people who break them repeatedly. We may switch comments off on stories where discussion is likely to cause harm.

If you think we removed your comment by mistake, email contact@smnnews.com.ng with a link to the story and we will take another look.

Reporting a comment

See a comment that breaks the rules? Use the report link beside it, or email contact@smnnews.com.ng with the link to the comment.

Your data

When you comment, we store your name, email address and comment, and we may collect your IP address. Your name and comment are shown publicly, and your email address is not. Read more in our Privacy Policy. We may pass information about a commenter to the authorities where the law requires it. Our Terms of Use also apply.
