Sponsored content policy
Our readers trust that news and paid content are different things. These rules keep them separate:
- All sponsored content is clearly labelled “Sponsored” or “Paid content” and names the sponsor.
- Sponsored content never appears as a news report, and it does not use the styling of our news pages in a way that could mislead.
- Our newsroom does not write or edit sponsored content. It is produced by the commercial team or the sponsor.
- Sponsors have no say over our editorial coverage. They cannot see stories in advance, change them or stop them.
- We may refuse advertisers or content that is misleading, unlawful, hateful, or that breaks our Editorial Policy.
- Claims in sponsored content must be accurate and capable of being backed up.
- All political and issue-based advertising must clearly disclose its sponsor and comply with applicable electoral laws and regulatory guidelines.
